Trends.Earth is a software tool embedded in QGIS, developed to track the SDG 15.3.1 indicator and monitor the effectiveness of individual Sustainable Land Management (SLM) projects in avoiding or reducing land degradation. It uses global data on the three LDN indicators by default, but users can update this with higher-resolution national or regional datasets and adjust the direction of change where appropriate. For LDN, Trends.Earth calculates trends over a 10–15-year baseline, assesses land degradation status, and identifies drivers of change. Limitations include the inability to add additional local indicators, the need for higher-resolution maps for small-scale applications, and requirements for QGIS proficiency and adequate computer facilities.
