Transect Walks

A transect walk is a participatory method where researchers and community members walk systematically along a defined path (transect) across the project or community area. Together, they observe, ask, listen, and document water, sanitation, and land-use conditions, producing a transect diagram. Typically conducted during the initial phase of fieldwork, transect walks cover areas that reflect the greatest diversity of resources and infrastructure. The collected information is later used to draw a diagram or map, which serves as a basis for group discussions and further planning.
