System for Earth Observation Data Access, Processing, and Analysis for Land Monitoring (SEPAL) is an open-source platform developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It provides efficient access to Earth observation data without requiring coding skills. SEPAL integrates multiple open-source software and cloud computing resources, enabling users to query, process, and analyze satellite data for advanced land monitoring. Its user-friendly interface and access to cloud-based supercomputers support improved climate change mitigation strategies and data-driven land-use policies. In the context of LDN, SEPAL offers a dedicated module for monitoring and reporting land degradation in line with UNCCD’s Good Practice Guidance v2 (GPG v2).
