From 10–12 February 2026, the Sub-Regional Climate Outlook Forum (Sub-COF5) for IGAD Cluster II brought together regional climate experts, policymakers, meteorological services, and sector stakeholders in Moyale, at the Ethiopia–Kenya border. The forum focused on translating seasonal climate forecasts into actionable advisories to strengthen early warning systems, drought preparedness, and climate resilience across the region.

Among the speakers was Angela Too, GIS & Remote Sensing Expert at the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) and lead of the GEO-LDN Helpdesk at RCMRD. In her presentation, she introduced the GEO-LDN tools and highlighted their role in supporting land degradation monitoring and evidence-based decision-making in sustainable land management.

Drawing on her experience supporting countries through the GEO-LDN Helpdesk, Ms. Too demonstrated how Earth observation–based tools can assist in assessing land degradation trends, identifying priority areas, and strengthening national reporting and planning processes. Her presentation emphasized the value of accessible geospatial solutions in regions highly vulnerable to climate variability and land degradation.

By showcasing GEO-LDN at Sub-COF5, she increased the visibility of the initiative among climate scientists, government representatives, and practitioners working across agriculture, livestock, and natural resource management sectors.
