LDN Target Setting Program (TSP) 2.0 at Doha

The Global Training Workshop on “Strengthening Land Restoration Targets and Commitments” brought together stakeholders from 18 countries selected for the second round of the Target Setting Programme (TSP 2.0), alongside experts from UNCCD, UNCBD, FAO, UNDP, GIZ, and other distinguished institutions.

Supporting Countries to refine LDN Targets

The workshop aimed to help countries make their Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) targets time-bound and spatially explicit. Geospatial data plays a key role in this process, not only by supporting the creation of spatially specific targets but also by increasing the efficiency of addressing LDN as a whole through Earth observation tools.

To reach the 2030 goals, participating countries explored how to revise their targets through activities such as:

  • Establishing national LDN working groups
  • Strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems, including preparations for PRAIS 2026 reporting
  • Addressing the financing gap for LDN implementation

Building Synergies across Rio Conventions

Another focus of the workshop was identifying synergies with the other Rio Conventions: the UNFCCC and the UNCBD.

The GEO-LDN Flagship has been working with countries engaged in the Global Dialogue Forum (GDF) on similar activities and aims to align these efforts with the TSP 2.0 process. In particular, GEO-LDN supports countries in leveraging Earth observations to strengthen their LDN targets and monitoring systems, including overlapping countries participating in both initiatives.

This workshop served as a reminder of the importance of building synergies not only across the Rio Conventions but also within the broader land community, fostering close collaboration to advance global land restoration.
