GEO-LDN Shares User Experience at CLMS General Assembly
From 3–5 June 2024, GEO-LDN took part in the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) General Assembly in Antwerp, Belgium. The three-day event, held in person and online, brought together more than 300 experts, researchers, and policymakers to discuss advances in land monitoring services and their applications.
About CLMS
The Copernicus Land Monitoring Service provides free and open geographical information on land cover, land use, and land dynamics. Largely based on high-resolution Sentinel satellite data, CLMS products are a key input for LDN monitoring, covering themes such as land productivity, vegetation disturbances, soil moisture, and more.
GEO-LDN’s Contribution
UNCCD and GEO-LDN were invited to speak on day three in the session “User presentations: Implementations and requirements.” The presentation highlighted:
- How GEO-LDN utilises Copernicus services in global datasets.
- Feedback received from countries regarding monitoring and implementation needs.
- Suggestions for the continued development of CLMS services and products.
Beyond the presentations, the Assembly offered opportunities to learn about upcoming Copernicus sensors and services and to connect with key partners, including RCMRD and Centre de Suivi Ecologique (CSE).
