The Conservation International Foundation (CI) is a non-profit organization that operates internationally in over 30 countries across six continents with a wide range of partners in order to empower societies to responsibly and sustainably care for nature for the well-being of humanity.
Neil Sims holds a PhD from the University of Canberra in Environmental Science and has extensive experience leading national and international projects using remote sensing to track plant growth and environmental changes. He has worked on methods to help countries report on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) and to monitor crop diseases from satellites. He serves as co-chair of the GEO-LDN Flagship and is currently working for the NCVC in Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Nausheen Mazhar is Chairperson and Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore, and Head of the International Resource Center (IRC), DFDI. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on land degradation, desertification, droughts, sustainable land management, sedimentation in reservoirs, and disaster risk reduction, with particular emphasis on dryland communities and policy responses to minimize the impacts of desertification.
Using the Data-Powered Positive Deviance approach, this study in Ghana’s Upper West Region identified why some communities preserve tree cover despite climate pressures.
