Calculating Soil Loss as a Basis for Restoration

GEO-LDN has integrated the IMPACT Toolbox, developed by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, into its Toolbox. Featuring the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), this free, open-source tool helps identify erosion-prone areas, improve land monitoring and reporting, and design targeted strategies for sustainable land management at national and local levels.
#HowtoLDN Team Ghana CAP

Team Ghana CAP is empowering communities to combat land degradation through integrated planning. By combining Earth observation with local knowledge, the team develops community maps, action plans, and decision-support tools. Supported by GEO-LDN, EU-REACH, and GIZ, these efforts aim to strengthen resilience, restore degraded lands, and inform national LDN strategies.

GEO-LDN meets D-GEO in Munich
7. July 2024
On 26–27 June 2025, GEO-LDN joined the D-GEO Working Group to discuss expanded use of Earth observation and in situ systems and promote open data policy. Hosted by DLR, D-GEO links Germany to the GEO network and seeks greater visibility for flagships like GEOGLAM and GEO-LDN, laying groundwork for deeper collaboration.
GEO-LDN supports Desertification and Drought Day

On 17 June 2024, GEO-LDN joined the UNCCD’s 30th anniversary and Desertification and Drought Day in Bonn, supporting events with interactive outreach and logistics. Beyond the observance, GEO-LDN launched an e-learning course, a decision support system, a helpdesk, and the #HowtoLDN campaign thus strengthening global efforts towards Land Degradation Neutrality.

CLMS General Assembly 2024
12. June 2024
From 3–5 June 2025, GEO-LDN joined the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) General Assembly in Antwerp. With over 300 experts present, GEO-LDN shared how Copernicus services support global LDN datasets, presented feedback from countries on monitoring needs, and explored opportunities for future service development and collaboration with key regional partners.
E-learning Course on Land Cover
11. June 2024
Launched on 21 March 2024, the free e-learning course “Using Land-Cover Information to Monitor SDG 15” equips technical officers and practitioners with skills to apply land-cover data in tracking SDG indicators 15.3.1 and 15.4.2. Developed by FAO, UNCCD, GEO-LDN and GIZ, the course supports global efforts toward Land Degradation Neutrality.
