Exploring Synergies Across the Rio Conventions: Lessons from Colombia

Colombia offers a good case for understanding how synergies between planning for land and biodiversity enable more effective adaptation to environmental challenges, including aridity and drought. In early 2026, two GIZ Global Projects (“GBF Implementation” and “Geodata for Development”) convened exchanges with Colombian partners to explore synergies between LDN target setting and NBSAPs.

Dr. Nausheen Mazhar is Chairperson and Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore, and Head of the International Resource Center (IRC), DFDI. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on land degradation, desertification, droughts, sustainable land management, sedimentation in reservoirs, and disaster risk reduction, with particular emphasis on dryland communities and policy responses to minimize the impacts of desertification.
