Colombia offers a good case for understanding how synergies between planning for land and biodiversity enable more effective adaptation to environmental challenges, including aridity and drought. In 2026, two GIZ Global Projects working on “GBF Implementation” and “Geodata for Development” convened a series of exchanges with Colombian partners to explore synergies and challenges between LDN target setting and NBSAP. Building on Colombia’s leadership at CBD COP16 and the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, discussions focused on translating global commitments into national implementation, identifying practical levers for monitoring and planning, institutional barriers, and opportunities for development cooperation to overcome these barriers. From the discussions, several factors to leverage synergies emerged.
