#05 Online Seminar
CBAS’s Contribution to the Great Green Wall Initiative in Africa
The fifth GEO-LDN Online Seminar took place on October 24, 2023, from 11:00–12:00 (CEST), focusing on “CBAS’s contribution to the Great Green Wall Initiative in Africa.” The session highlighted the Great Green Wall Big Data Facilitator (GGW-BDF), designed to support ecosystem restoration and accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The GGW-BDF builds on three foundational components: the SDGSAT-1 satellite, the SDG Big Data Platform, and SDG Progress Spatial Products. Together, these tools enable data access, generate insights for restoration, and provide e-learning resources with a particular focus on SDG 15.3.1 (proportion of degraded land over total land area).
Presenters Xiaosong Li and Amos Kabo-bah guided participants through the platform’s functionalities, services, and applications. They also underlined its role in complementing the GEO-LDN Federated Toolbox in the African context, supporting national and regional efforts to monitor land degradation and advance Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN).
